KUALA LUMPUR (May 18): Information of 22.5 million Malaysians born between 1940 and 2004 has allegedly been stolen from the National Registration Department (NRD) and put on sale for US$10,000 on the dark web.

Local Malay-language technology portal Amanz on Tuesday (May 17) reported that the seller claimed that this was an expanded database compared with the one he sold in September last year, which was only up to 1998.

In a screenshot shared by the portal, the seller displayed details such as names, emails, mobile numbers and addresses.

In September 2021, local media reported that a netizen raised the alarm on a database being sold online that purportedly contained the personal data of four million Malaysians.

The database was claimed to contain details such as names, emails, mobile numbers and addresses, and was grouped by birth years from 1979 to 1998.
