PETALING JAYA (Nov 15): DAP's disciplinary board today has decided to uphold its decision to sack 38 of its members.

Party's Disciplinary Committee chairman Tan Kok Wai, in making the announcement, said reasons for their termination included standing as independent candidates during the 13th General Election and breaching party's discipline.

Out of the 38, 12 of them were sacked for standing as independent candidates. They included former Teratai state assemblymen Jenice Lee Ying Ha, former Jalan Bagan Luar chairman Asoghan Govindaraju and former Pahang vice chairman Koh Boon Heng.

Jenice Lee was stripped of her membership after she defied party's order by going head-to-head with DAP's choice of candidate, Tiew Way Keng.

The remaining 26 members were dismissed for breaching party discipline and they included Kajang municipal councilor Tan Boon Wah and former Ladang Paroi branch vice-chairman David Dass.

Dass had criticised some party leaders for practicing favouritism, he was then sacked for "damaging the party's reputation".

After the the party held its National Congress in December last year, these members were supposedly expelled. However, days before the GE13, the Registrar of Societies(RoS) announced that it does not "recognised" due to errors in their poll counting process.

Subsequently, those dismissed could still retain their memberships and were allowed to attend and vote during the party's re-election.

In today's statement, Tan said the disciplinary committee has once again reviewed all dismissal and upheld its previous decision to sack all 38 of them.

"I wish to reiterate that the disciplinary committee has a responsibility to uphold the party’s image and reputation, as well as not to let down public confidence in the party." he said.
