KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 17): DAP founding chairman and member Dr Chen Man Hin has passed away.

Party chairman Lim Guan Eng in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 17) announced news of the Dr Chen’s demise.

"Deeply saddened by the passing of our founding chairman and DAP founding member Dr Chen Man Hin early this morning. On the way to Seremban from Penang to express our heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest in peace," Lim posted.

The 97-year-old was DAP's chairman from 1966 to 1999.

China-born Dr Chen served as Member of Parliament for Seremban from September 1974 to April 1982 and again from November 1983 to October 1990, Seremban Timor from May 1969 to September 1974 and Member of the Negeri Sembilan state legislative assembly for Rahang from December 1965 to April 1982.

Upon graduating in 1952, he worked as a doctor in Singapore and Hospital Seremban until 1956, before going on to open his own clinic.
