KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): Malaysia's new Covid-19 cases fell to 3,780 today, from 4,140 yesterday, bringing cumulative infections to date to 470,110. Also reported were 36 new deaths.

Active cases slipped to 41,889 from 42,135, as recoveries come in higher at 3,990 compared with new infections, according to a statement from Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the new infections, 3,441 involve locals while 337 are foreigners. And all but two of the new cases are domestic transmissions. The two are imported cases involving locals.

As for the new fatalities – involving 35 locals and one foreigner – they were reported from Selangor (eight), Penang (six), Sarawak (five), Kedah (five), Kuala Lumpur (four), Terengganu (two), Negeri Sembilan (two) and Pahang (one). The death toll from the coronavirus in the country now stands at 1,902 cases.

Meanwhile, Selangor continued to top the list with 1,275 new infections reported.

This is followed by Sarawak (405), Kuala Lumpur (342), Kedah (363), Kelantan (357), Johor (224), Penang (187), Pahang (159), Melaka (122), Perak (115), Sabah (87), Negeri Sembilan (70), Terengganu (58), Labuan (7), Putrajaya (7) and Perlis (2).

The ministry also reported that 11 new clusters have been identified, raising cumulative clusters identified to active clusters to 1,887. Active clusters now stand at 470, as 1,417 clusters have ended without new infections.

Of the new clusters, four were found in Selangor, two in Johor, one each in Kelantan, Sarawak, Perak, Melaka and Sabah.

Four of the new clusters identified were found in education institutions, three involved community infections, two were linked to workplaces, and another two are categorised as religious clusters.
