SINGAPORE (Sept 25): Civmec is hoping to be the lead contractor to design and build Australia's future "multi-billion dollar" submarine construction project, following the launch of its new defence division.
The engineering and construction services provider regards the submarine project as "one of a number of significant opportunities" in the defence sector.
Other potential projects include the maintenance and in-service support of Australian frigates, building of future ships and defence infrastructure construction, Civmec says.
The company plans to leverage its expertise as a specialist fabricator, constructor and project manager in the resources and infrastructure sectors to establish a strong presence in the defence industry.
Civmec appointed Mike Deeks CSC, a former Royal Australian Navy Commodore, as General Manager - Defence to head the unit.
Shares in Civmec last traded at 40 cents on Sept 22.
