KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): CIMB Investment Bank Bhd, CIMB Islamic Bank Bhd and CIMB Thai Bank PCL (collectively CIMB) have been honoured with 11 awards at Alpha Southeast Asia’s 15th Annual Best Deal and Solution Awards 2021 — a record win with the largest number of awards among banking groups in ASEAN.

In a statement, CIMB said the awards are a testament to the strength of its established investment banking franchise across ASEAN, with the group picking up awards for top deals across the equity and debt space and its market leadership in the Sukuk markets.

According to the statement, CIMB is the largest global Sukuk arranger to date (amongst ASEAN banks) as well as in Malaysia for more than a decade (according to Bloomberg and Dealogic information for the award period).

CIMB was also recognised for its commitment on the ESG front, clinching the Best ASEAN Green SRI Sukuk and Best SRI Sukuk awards for SME Bank’s maiden issuance of RM500 million Sustainability Islamic MTN, where CIMB acted as lead manager.

CIMB Islamic Bank’s innovative EcoSave-i Savings Account, with its built-in feature for contributing to environmental causes as well as its partnerships with environmentally focused bodies in Malaysia helped lay the foundation for its recognition as Best Social Impact Islamic Finance House.

“We are pleased with the awards and recognitions and would like to thank our clients who, despite the volatile and challenging market conditions, have continued to place a strong vote of confidence in our capabilities.

“Our awards in the ESG space affirm CIMB’s aspiration to be an ASEAN sustainability leader, in line with our commitment to mobilise RM30 billion towards sustainable finance by 2024. We also appreciate #teamCIMB’s efforts in continuing to work tirelessly to enhance CIMB’s reputation as a leading ASEAN investment banking franchise and Islamic finance house,” said CIMB group chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad.
