SINGAPORE (Nov 16): Kwek Leng Joo, deputy chairman and executive director of City Developments (CDL) died early this morning at the age of 62.
According to a CDL statement, Kwek died in his sleep as a result of a sudden heart attack.
Appointed as a director of CDL since 1980, Kwek assumed the position of deputy managing director in 1987 and held the role of managing director from 1995 until his appointment as deputy chairman of CDL in 2014.
CDL described Kwek as a dedicated advocate of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for over two decades. “His vision had established CDL’s reputation as a leading green building champion and a forerunner in CSR, raising the bar for Singapore’s real estate industry and driving change for the building sector,” it said.
Kwek was also an executive director of City e-Solutions, a Hong-Kong listed subsidiary of CDL, a non-executive director of Singapore-listed Hong Leong Finance and also a director of Hong Leong Investment Holdings Private Limited, the holding company of CDL.
“Mr Kwek’s leadership, invaluable contribution and presence will be greatly missed by the board, management and employees of the CDL Group,” it added.
