Speaking to reporters at the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) headquarters today, a tearful Wong said she had decided to resign in the interests of her party, and that the distribution of the photographs were an insidious and underhanded attempt by certain quarters to smear her reputation.

"These people have conspired to undermine my credibility both as a Selangor state exco member as well as a Keadilan leader. Although the smear campaign directed towards me had caused me a lot of anguish, I am aware that the real objective is to discredit the Parti Keadilan Rakyat," she said.

Wong, who is PKR Wanita publicity head, said she had done nothing wrong.

"I wish to state that I am not ashamed of my sexuality as a woman and as a single person. I have broken no law. I stand by the fundamental principle in a democracy that everyone has a right to privacy," she said.

At the time of writing, it is not clear whether her resignation has been accepted by the Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.  

It was reported yesterday that nude photographs of Wong were being circulated to the public. She has since lodged a police report.

Wong was the state exco in charge of tourism, consumer affairs and environment after Pakatan Rakyat took over the Selangor state government following the general elections last March.
