(Oct 8): Police have confirmed that the remains of a girl found at a river near Pos Tohoi, Gua Musang, Kelantan yesterday belonged to one of the seven Orang Asli children who went missing six weeks ago.

According to The Star, the decomposed body was identified as that of eight-year old Sasa Sobrie by her uncle at a hospital in Gua Musang.

The seven children went missing from their SK Pos Tohoi hostel on Aug 23.

Kelantan police chief Kelantan Datuk Mazlan Lazim said a member of Sasa's family has identified the body based on the marks found on it, Bernama reported.

"However, we still need to conduct DNA testing before the body can be claimed by her family," Mazlan was qouted as saying.

Sasa's decomposed body was found by a villager in Sungai Perias yesterday at 7pm.

Mazlan said that following the recovery of the body, police will change the search and rescue operation by giving more focus to the area along the river.

The team will also use scuba divers from other agencies to facilitate the SAR operation.

Meanwhile in Gua Musang, hospital director Dr Nik Mohd Faizal Zainal told Bernama that the post mortem report revealed the girl had been dead between one and two weeks.

The seven children, comprising six girls and a boy aged between seven and 11, were believed to have run away from the school hostel for fear of disciplinary action by their teacher for bathing in a river.

Their families had believed that the children could have been abducted by illegal organ traders after all efforts to find them yielded nothing. – The Malaysian Insider
