PETALING JAYA (March 22): PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli today alleged that pro-establishment blogger Papa Gomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, may be a phantom voter.

This revelation comes a day after opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sued Papa Gomo for defamation over explicit photos posted on his blog accusing Anwar of being intimate with a man.

At a press conference today, Rafizi appeared rather amused at the discovery.

He told reporters, "I am pleased to announce that Papa Gomo is a phantom voter. Malaysia is becoming comical. We talk about phantom voters all the time and Papa Gomo is one."

On a more serious note, Rafizi said this revelation strengthens the opposition's case that the electoral roll has been compromised by the presence of phantom voters.

According to Rafizi, PKR's research team found that the Election Commission (EC) voter search website has two voter listings for Wan Muhammad Azri.

The first listing has Wan Muhammad Azri as a police postal voter attached to the Ampang district police headquarters, voting in the Ampang parliamentary constituency and Bukit Antarabangsa state constituency.

The second listing has Wan Muhammad Azri listed as a voter, using his civilian identification number, in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency.

Wan Muhammad Azri was formerly a traffic police officer who was convicted last September and imprisoned for soliciting a bribe from a suspected drug addict.

This information was found on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) online database for convicted offenders.

When asked, Rafizi said PKR was certain that Wan Muhammad Azri was indeed Papa Gomo as they have documents to prove the link between the former police corporal and the online personality.

Rafizi added that Wan Muhammad Azri had signed documents acknowledging receipt of Anwar's letter of demand and Papa Gomo proceeded to blog about the legal action.

Rafizi said he was unfazed by more revelations from Papa Gomo. Papa Gomo yesterday retaliated against Anwar's suit by releasing a video snippet showing Anwar making small talk with someone alleged to have been sodomised by the opposition leader.

"Let him say what he wants to say. I'm not interested to entertain him. I'm more interested to ask EC how can you allow a person, convicted sacked and no longer with the police force to remain on the electoral roll as a postal voter?" Rafizi said.

Rafizi said the video was merely speculative and full of insinuation.

"Let's see what Papa Gomo has. We have to see carefully. But at first glance, I didn't see anything except insinuations by Papa Gomo," Rafizi said.
