KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): Berjaya Corp Bhd’s (BCorp) subsidiary Berjaya Enviro Holdings Sdn Bhd (BEnviro) is teaming up with Qhazanah Sabah Bhd (QSB), the Sabah state government’s strategic investment arm, to develop and modernise waste management facilities in Sabah.

On Friday (March 25), BEnviro signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with QSB to cooperate on the development and operation of integrated waste management projects utilising modern and advanced technologies.

In a statement, BCorp chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan said BEnviro, being a leading integrated waste management project developer and operator, is honoured to be a part of this initiative in order to contribute towards modernising the waste management services in Sabah, which in turn, will greatly enhance the economic and social well-being in Sabah.

BEnviro is engaged in the core activities of development and operation of waste management facilities which includes sanitary landfill, sustainable scheduled waste treatment and recycling centres whilst the BCorp Group is also involved in landfill gas to renewable energy.

BEnviro’s plethora of renowned waste management projects include the Bukit Tagar EnviroParks (BTEP) sanitary landfill in Selangor as well as other sanitary landfills in China and the Philippines.

BTEP is the largest sanitary landfill in Malaysia and one of the largest engineered sanitary landfills in the ASEAN region. It is also the first sanitary landfill in Malaysia to be registered under the Clean Development Mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and has achieved the highest level of emission reductions of any landfill site in the region.

Shares in BCorp closed unchanged at 24 sen, valuing it at a market capitalisation of RM1.3 billion.
