KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): Battersea Power Station and global entertainment and event firm IMG have announced the opening of Lift 109, a glass elevator that ascents 109 metres to the top of the building's chimney, providing visitors a 360-degree view of London's skyline. Lift 109 is part of the Grade II* listed power station, which consists of shops, restaurants and event venues, among others.

In a press statement on Friday (Nov 11), Battersea Power Station Development Co leasing director Dan Westley said: "Lift 109 will be a truly one-of-a-kind attraction; where else can you travel to the top of one of the most iconic chimneys in the world in a glass elevator? [The project] cements our status as London's newest visitor destination, after the Grade II* listed building opened its doors to the public on Oct 14. We are looking forward to welcoming the first Lift 109 passengers and would encourage people to purchase their tickets from today."

The Lift 109 experience will begin from the Power Station's Art Deco Turbine Hall A where visitors will be able to learn about the building's history, architectural significance and presence in popular culture through an ensemble of original records and multimedia displays.

State-of-the-art features include a giant interactive multiplayer touchscreen through which guests will be encouraged to collectively "generate" energy while a lighting installation above whirls and glows brighter with every touch.

There will also be a Lift 109 Shop for visitors to purchase souvenirs and keepsakes.

Tickets for Lift 109 will be available for purchase starting from Nov 11 with prices at £11.50 (RM62.50) per child, £15.90 per adult and £50.40 per family. Lift 109 will operate from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Thursday and from 10am to 8pm from Friday to Sunday.

Battersea Power Station is a development owned by Sime Darby Property Bhd, S P Setia Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund that covers 42 acres and includes 3.5 million square feet of mixed commercial space, together with 4,239 new homes.
