PETALING JAYA (May 23): Battersea Power Station will be hosting a special Britannia-inspired party on June 2 and 3 to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.

Battersea Power Station Development Company CEO Simon Murphy said in a statement: "The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be a truly joyous moment to celebrate, and we look forward to commemorating this at Battersea Power Station with a very British celebration and a series of family-friendly activities for all to enjoy. We’re also incredibly proud to have been chosen as the first central London destination visited by the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay on its return into the UK on June 2."

The family-friendly event, to be held from 12pm to 10pm, will feature a mix of live music and dance performances, screenings of celebrations from across the world, as well as food and drink pop-ups from street food trucks, bars and restaurants already open at Battersea Power Station. These include Tapas Brindisa, Cinnamon Kitchen, Wright Brothers, Vagabond Wines, Roti King and Tonkotsu.

Visitors will be able to watch a variety of live entertainment on two screens and a stage in the newly opened six-acre Power Station Park, including music from Busk in London and dance performances from Flag Dancers.

To celebrate British culture, there will also be performances from The Beatles tribute act and classical music from Roaming Quartet London, String Quartet and Acoustic Roaming Band.

Free outdoor games including croquet and ping pong will be available and Imagination Playground will also be returning for the Jubilee celebrations with its interactive outdoor big blue blocks.

There will also be the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay arriving at Battersea Power Station on June 2, marking the first Central London destination to receive the Baton after its international trip across the Commonwealth.

Four Batonbearers will take the Baton from Battersea Power Station Underground Station at 7pm along a route to the front of the Grade II listed power station. To mark the moment, the final Batonbearer will place the Baton into a podium on stage, and the Battersea Power Station Community Choir will perform a special musical number.

The power station’s iconic chimneys will also be lit purple and gold, the official Platinum Jubilee colours.

The historic and iconic site will soon see the building opening to the public, Murphy revealed: "It’s an extremely exciting year for Battersea Power Station as we prepare to open the iconic Grade II listed building to the public for the very first time this September, and these celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee offer the perfect opportunity to welcome members of the local community and those from further afield to discover the vibrant new riverside neighbourhood we’re creating here."

Battersea Power Station will be home to 254 residential apartments, over 100 retail shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as unique event spaces including the Chimney Lift Experience. The opening will also coincide with the launch of the riverside neighbourhood’s new high street, Electric Boulevard, which will offer a mix of office space, shops, bars and restaurants, a 164-room hotel, and a community centre.

Circus West Village, the first chapter in the regeneration of Battersea Power Station, is already home to over 1,700 residents and more than 20 bars, restaurants, cafés, fitness and leisure offerings including Gordon Ramsay’s Street Pizza, Francesco Mazzei’s Fiume, The Turbine Theatre, Be Military Fit, DNA VR, Black Sheep Coffee, Boom Cycle and The Cinema in The Arches.

With the Northern Line extended to give this new riverside neighbourhood its very own Zone 1 London Underground station, Battersea Power Station is now within 15 minutes of the West End.
