(September 23): Hours after his appointment today as the new Selangor Menteri Besar, Mohamed Azmin Ali pledged to manage the state with transparency.
In a maiden speech at his house in Kampung Klang Gate Baru where he grew up, Azmin promised to work hard and take care of the people in Selangor.
"I also give my word that I will carry out my duties with trust and integrity," he told the crowd gathered at his mother's house.
Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said the RM3 billion reserves in Selangor will be used for the interest of the people.
"Every single sen of the state fund belongs to the people. The money must be translated into developmental programmes for the good of the people of this state," the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman said.
Among the agreements that will be reviewed are the water deal, the controversial Kidex highway and the seizures of Bahasa Malaysia and Iban language Bibles.
Azmin explained that the move to review these agreements have to be done to avoid any speculation after he takes over the helm of the administration from Khalid.
"To avoid any speculation, we have to ensure that all agreements are made public to the tax-payers," he said.
He said that it was also to guarantee that all the deals made would fully benefit the people of Selangor and was implemented in a transparent manner.
"We have to make sure that the deals were made transparently and has to be implemented once inked," he added.
Khalid had come under heavy criticism after being appointed for the second term as menteri besar for his "authoritarian" leadership style by not giving consideration to the views of other Pakatan assemblymen as well as the views of his party, DAP and PAS.
He was also slammed for his management of several key issues in the state including the water rationing, the seizure of the Bibles by the Selangor Islamic Department earlier this year and the Kidex highway.
