KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 1): Ayer Holdings Bhd, one of the oldest companies in Malaysia, has appointed Chua Seng Yong as its group chief executive officer (CEO), effective Monday (Aug 1), to fill the post vacated by Eugene Khoo Kong Hooi, who resigned over four years ago.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the property development and plantation group said Chua has 37 years of experience in property development, hospitality, property investment, retail management, construction, education and financial management.

Chua, 60, served in various capacities in these industries including as an accountant, a financial controller, the head of group corporate services, the chairman of hotel executive committee and an executive assistant to group CEO.

After Khoo's resignation on June 7, 2018 to pursue other interests, then group chief operating officer (COO) Jeffrey Yoon Weng Choon was tasked to assume the duties of CEO, although he was never appointed to the post. Following Yoon's resignation about a year later on June 30, 2019, Jeannie Khoo Poh Gaik was appointed COO and likewise assumed the CEO's duties until now.

Ayer's share price closed unchanged at RM6.00 on Monday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM449.12 million.
