KUALA LUMPUR (July 8): Andrew Sill, the former chief executive officer (CEO) of the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) Malaysia, has been named the new commercial banking head of HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd.
His appointment, to take effect next Wednesday (July 13), will see him taking on the responsibility for HSBC Malaysia's commercial banking, global trade and receivables finances, global liquidity, and cash management.
Sill, who is also chairman of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, is replacing Mahbub Ur Rahman, who has been redesignated as HSBC Bangladesh's deputy CEO and the bank's country head for commercial banking.
In a statement, HSBC said Sill brings significant transaction banking experience in Asia to the role that would help him drive the commercial banking performance in Malaysia.
Sill was with RBS since 2000, HSBC said, adding that he will report to HSBC Asia Pacific commercial banking regional head Stuart Tait and HSBC Malaysia CEO Mukhtar Hussain.
"Andrew's experience will be an asset to the management team. His knowledge of transaction banking and ties to the business community will be invaluable as we look to build strong and sustainable businesses that focus on the needs of our customers," said Mukhtar.
