KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 21): Police are awaiting further instructions from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) on a probe into Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim’s claim that he was forced to sign a proclamation seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state’s ruler.
In a written parliamentary reply on Wednesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police had recorded statements from four individuals to assist in the investigation.
The investigation paper was referred to the AGC for review and further instructions on Sept 29, 2026, he said.
“Any further investigative action by the police will depend on the AGC’s review and instructions,” he added.
Saifuddin said the police would conduct the investigation professionally, transparently and in accordance with the law, without favouring any party.
He was responding to Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah), who sought an update on the investigation into a police report lodged by Ismail on Sept 8, 2026, over his allegation that he was forced to sign the proclamation against his will.
On Sept 9, Ismail said he had signed the proclamation seeking Tuanku Muhriz’s removal under duress and lodged a police report over the matter.
However, he reversed his position on Sept 17, confirming that the state executive council had endorsed the proclamation. A week later, he said the issue of whether he had signed the document under duress had been “overtaken by events”.
