For the week of March 13 to 18, notable changes in shareholding at Bursa Malaysia-listed companies included those at 99 Speed Mart Retail Holdings Bhd (KL:99SMART), which saw the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) increase its shareholding in the mini-market and grocery chain to 6.57%, or 551.8 million shares.
Having first surfaced as a substantial shareholder on Feb 12 with a 5.01% stake, the pension fund acquired 23.99 million shares during the period under review.
The stock hit RM4.15 in intraday trading on Feb 9, the highest since its listing in September 2024. Since then, it has tapered off by about 15%, finishing at RM3.51 last Wednesday, translating into a market capitalisation of RM29.48 billion.
The EPF ceased to be a substantial shareholder in oil and gas player Velesto Energy Bhd (KL:VELESTO) after disposing of 25.29 million shares on March 10. Its shareholding fell below the 5% threshold for disclosure.
The pension fund emerged as a substantial shareholder of Velesto on Nov 14, 2025, following the acquisition of 5.39 million shares, which bumped its shareholding up to 5.04%, or 414.14 million shares.
During the period in which the EPF was a substantial shareholder, Velesto’s stock gained more than 37%. It ended trading at 33 sen last Wednesday for a market cap of RM2.72 billion.
Meanwhile, Concrete Engineering Products Bhd (KL:CEPCO) ceased to be a substantial shareholder of Inch Kenneth Kajang Rubber plc (KL:INCKEN) after it transferred 38 million shares, or a 10.03% stake, to Datuk Muhamad Fasri Samsudin as settlement for a RM16.8 million debt.
This resulted in Muhamad Fasri almost doubling his stake in the plantation and development company. He already had 10.94% equity interest via his 65%-controlled FA Securities Sdn Bhd, as well as a 2% stake through his children Muhamad Faris Muhamad Fasri and Muhammad Firdaus Muhamad Fasri.
Muhamad Fasri, via FA Securities, had a 15.46% stake in Concrete Engineering, while Inch Kenneth Kajang has 19.99%. On March 19, FA Securities ceased to be a substantial shareholder of the company.
Last Wednesday, Inch Kenneth Kajang ended trading at 33.5 sen, valuing it at RM112.8 million.
Samarang UCITS-Samarang Asian Prosperity — which is part of Luxembourg-based Samarang Asset Management SA — ceased to be a substantial shareholder of Harbour-Link Group Bhd (KL:HARBOUR) after selling 20 million of its shares.
The fund surfaced as a substantial shareholder of the shipping and logistics services company at end-March 2022, and gradually increased its stake until mid-March 2024, when it held 28.19 million shares or a 7.07% stake. In July 2025, it started disposing of small blocks of shares in the company.
Harbour-Link’s shares have shed about 13% of their value since November last year and ended trading at RM1.33 last Wednesday for a market value of RM530.1 million.
Since early December 2025, Public Bank Bhd’s (KL:PBBANK) share price has risen about 13%. The stock touched a record high of RM5.14 on Feb 11 this year, before paring some gains to close at RM4.93 last Wednesday for a market cap of RM95.69 billion.
The EPF was a net seller of Public Bank’s shares during the period in review, trimming its shareholding to 17.75%, or 3.45 billion shares, against 18.33% at the end of January.
Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP), on the other hand, acquired three million shares in the banking group, increasing its stake to 5.16%, or one billion shares. The fund surfaced as a substantial shareholder with a 5.01% stake on Feb 6.
