KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 6): International private healthcare company Columbia Asia Healthcare Sdn Bhd is now known as Asia OneHealthcare Sdn Bhd (A1Health) after consolidating its healthcare assets across Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

The newly renamed holding company unites its diverse network of healthcare facilities, including the tertiary hospitals of Ara Damansara Medical Centre, Bukit Tinggi Medical Centre, ParkCity Medical Centre, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, the three RS Premier Hospitals in Indonesia, and the Columbia Asia Hospital platform.

Notably, Columbia Asia Healthcare just recently completed the acquisition of Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Sdn Bhd (RSDH) from Sime Darby Bhd (KL: SIME) and its Australian partner for RM5.7 billion cash.

RSDH — a 50:50 joint venture between Sime Darby and Australia's biggest private hospital operator Ramsay Health Care Ltd — operates four hospitals in Malaysia and three in Indonesia.

Furthermore, A1Health also acquired five super-specialty hospitals in Malaysia from TE Asia Healthcare, including ALTY Orthopaedic Hospital, Beacon Hospital, Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), Hospital Picaso, and Northern Heart Hospital Penang.

"Since 2020, we have embarked on a transformative journey, evolving from a secondary hospital system into a comprehensive healthcare platform," A1Health said in a statement.

"With this expansion, Asia OneHealthcare now offers a comprehensive range of healthcare services, encompassing secondary, tertiary, quaternary, and super-specialty facilities across Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam," it added.

A1Health is majority-owned by the Hong Leong Group and US asset management firm TPG.

The announcement confirmed a previous article by The Edge Malaysia weekly in February, that a streamlining of healthcare assets owned by TPG, TE Asia Healthcare Partners and the Hong Leong Group was being worked on.

The exercise could see the healthcare assets fetching a valuation of around RM15 billion.

Based on a tally of hospital beds at the various facilities as disclosed on websites or annual reports, the merged entity would have 4,275 beds in total, of which 2,887 would be in Malaysia.

Prior to the renaming, Columbia Asia Healthcare owns and operates 22 medical facilities in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
