KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Businessman Datuk Andrew Lim, who is leading a Malaysian retail group to take over Hong Kong-based DFI Retail Group’s food retail businesses in Malaysia, has clarified that the investment is in his personal capacity and unrelated to Sogo Malaysia.
Lim, who is the group deputy chairman of SOGO Department Store Sdn Bhd, said Sogo Malaysia will continue to be managed and operated separately and independently.
He said this in a statement on Friday (Feb 24) in reaction to news articles on Thursday regarding the takeover of DFI's food retail businesses.
DFI, which entered the Malaysian market 24 years ago through the acquisition of the Giant supermarket chain, currently operates a total of 40 Giant outlets along with eight Mercato, two Cold Storage, one TMC and 40 Giant Mini stores.
Lim is also the executive chairman of Gama Group, which owns and operates the Gama supermarket and department store in Penang.
