KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 20): Leaders of political parties and coalitions that have a large number of seats (yang mempunyai jumlah kerusi yang banyak) have been asked to inform Istana Negara of the agreed combination of political parties to form the next Government, as well as submit the name of the prime minister candidate, to the palace by 2pm on Monday (Nov 21).
In accordance with Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's consent and decision on the formation of the new Government and the appointment of the PM through this process is final, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.
“His Majesty advises the people and leaders of political parties to respect the democratic process, and accept the results of the GE15 with a calm and open mind in order to maintain the integrity of the country, because this country is like an inheritance where the leaders are its trustees,” read the statement written in Malay.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also reminded that the country needs a government that is stable, authoritative and has integrity to protect the welfare of the people and drive the nation's welfare agenda.
The King also asked that the people pray that the formation of the new Government will run smoothly for the benefit and prosperity of the country. He also asked the people to pray that Malaysia be blessed and protected from any form of disaster and calamities.
The statement was issued after Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh informed the palace that no political parties managed to obtain a simple majority of seats in Parliament to form a Government after the 15th general election (GE15).
